Not something we particularly like \ud83d\ude1b<\/p>\n<p>When using <a href=\"https:\/\/esphome.io\">esphome<\/a> software on this &#8216;thing&#8217; it transforms into a powerful locally controlled IR gateway for use with Home Assistant. You can control your TV, Airconditioning, Radio and so on&#8230;. all directly from <a href=\"https:\/\/home-assistant.io\">Home Assistant<\/a>. without any cloud interference \ud83d\ude09<\/p>\n<p><strong>What do You need for the &#8216;operation&#8217;?<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A few <a class=\"thirstylink\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"ALI - Cable Dupont Jumper Wire Dupont 30CM\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ingeniousmakers.com\/index.php\/recommends\/ali-cable-dupont-jumper-wire-dupont-30cm\/\" data-shortcode=\"true\">dupont wires<\/a> (male to female)<\/li>\n<li>A Soldering iron. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espthings.io\/index.php\/2021\/02\/16\/soldering\/\">More about soldering here<\/a><\/li>\n<li>A small Phillips-head screwdriver, or get a fantastic set here: <a class=\"thirstylink\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"ALI - Xiaomi Mijia Wiha Screwdriver Kit\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ingeniousmakers.com\/index.php\/recommends\/ali-xiaomi-mijia-wiha-screwdriver-kit\/\" data-shortcode=\"true\">Aliexpress<\/a><\/li>\n<li>A <a class=\"thirstylink\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"ALI - CP2102 5PIN USB to UART TTL Module\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ingeniousmakers.com\/index.php\/recommends\/ali-cp2102-5pin-usb-to-uart-ttl-module\/\" data-shortcode=\"true\">USB to UART TTL Module<\/a> (choose: CP2102 5PIN)<\/li>\n<li>Nerves \ud83d\ude09<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>So let&#8217;s begin and put a screwdriver to the thing!<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>On the bottom, carefully remove the 3 rubber feet and put them somewhere safe. If you do not have such a screwdriver, consider this excellent set from <a class=\"thirstylink\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"ALI - Xiaomi Mijia Wiha Screwdriver Kit\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ingeniousmakers.com\/index.php\/recommends\/ali-xiaomi-mijia-wiha-screwdriver-kit\/\" data-shortcode=\"true\">Aliexpress<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Remove the PCB.<\/li>\n<li>Solder 3 <a class=\"thirstylink\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"ALI - Cable Dupont Jumper Wire Dupont 30CM\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ingeniousmakers.com\/index.php\/recommends\/ali-cable-dupont-jumper-wire-dupont-30cm\/\" data-shortcode=\"true\">dupont wires<\/a> on the PCB on position 4 (RX), 5 (TX) and 7 (3,3v). Just solder the male side of the wire on there using a low temperature (350 degrees or so). These need to be removed later. Cut one in half. Use the half with the male pin and strip the shielding off on the other side of the wire. On the other dupot-wire, remove some shielding halfway the wire. Twist them together and solder the twisted copper connection. It will now look like this:<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-659\" src=\"https:\/\/www.espthings.io\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/twisted-dupont-1024x361.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"750\" height=\"265\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.ingeniousmakers.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/twisted-dupont-1024x361.png?v=1615730704 1024w, https:\/\/www.ingeniousmakers.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/twisted-dupont-300x106.png?v=1615730704 300w, https:\/\/www.ingeniousmakers.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/twisted-dupont-768x271.png?v=1615730704 768w, https:\/\/www.ingeniousmakers.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/twisted-dupont-1536x542.png?v=1615730704 1536w, https:\/\/www.ingeniousmakers.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/twisted-dupont-2048x722.png?v=1615730704 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px\" \/><\/li>\n<li>Solder one male pin to position 1 (GND) and the other male pin to position 3 (IO0) on the PCB.<\/li>\n<li>Connect the USB to UART TTL Module to the corresponding pins.<br \/>\n1+3 &gt; GND\u00a0 (To put the esp in flash-mode)<br \/>\n4 &gt; RX<br \/>\n5 &gt; TX<br \/>\n7 &gt; 3,3v (be careful not to connect to 5v on the USB to UART TTL Module side!)<\/li>\n<li>Use <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/esphome\/esphome-flasher\/releases\">esphome flasher<\/a> to upload the esphome binary (refer to he config below). Check if the the firmware flashing was successful.<\/li>\n<li>Remove the USB to UART TTL Module and carefully desolder all 5 wires and test boot the IR-blaster.<\/li>\n<li>If all works OK, put the thing back together and enjoy!<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>The example below controls a Daikin Climate unit, but You can virtually control any IR device.
